The results of the 5th annual ABB University Award 2016 competition were published on 22 June. With his diploma thesis on Navigation system for unmanned aerial vehicles and ultralight aircraft, Pavel Brož became the winner of the contest of scientific and technological projectsand by university students in the 2015/16 academic year. The Jury award went to Petr Šimek for his dissertation on methods of synchronization of pulse-controlled inverters in network with voltage disturbances. Both winners are studying at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering.

A total of 58 students with 24 bachelor's and 34 master or dissertation theses enrolled to the final round of ABB University Award 2016. Only the dozen best made it through to the finals. Winners will traditionally participate in the so-called professional trip to the ABB factory for DC converters and vacuum interrupters in Ratingen, Germany, and to the high-tech center in Ladenburg. In it, among other things, the research and development of robotics is underway along with a unique industrial robot, Yumi, which can safely cooperate with people during manufacturing processes .

The ABB University Award 2016 honors the best undergraduate, master's or dissertation theses in the field of energy, drives, robotics, industrial automation, energy efficiency and other technical directions. The IAESTE Czech Republic is partner of the event which aims to promote professional skills and language skills of students and graduates through an international exchange program.
