It offers 400 courses of study, a choice of 20 undergraduate and graduate specializations, has built more than 20 laboratories and 13 research groups. It has educated over 4500 graduates. It provides studies in all areas of information technology, at the highest level in state-of-the-art classrooms. Faculty of Information Technology of CTU in Prague (FIT CTU), which has just celebrated its 15th anniversary since its establishment on 1 July 2009, when it became an essential part of the CTU University, has managed to do all this. The aim of the new faculty was to provide quality studies in all areas of computer science and at all levels of study. In just 15 years, it has become the most sought-after faculty at CTU.

From the very beginning, there was a vision of a faculty dedicated to the study of information technology and educating top experts in this field who will be leaders in the labour market. The idea of a new faculty was also born as a result of the rapid development of this field and the growing demand for IT professionals. Within a very short time, it was possible to build a leading educational and research institution offering 10 bachelor's and 10 master's specialisations and then a doctoral programme, all in Czech and most of them in English. Students can travel to more than 60 foreign universities around the world and work on real projects with more than 58 partner companies while studying. The founders of the faculty certainly did not expect at that time that more than 3400 applicants would apply to the faculty every year, making FIT CTU the most sought-after faculty of the entire CTU, and thus showing the importance and indispensability of this field today.

"I am proud that today FIT CTU is one of the most prestigious faculties of its kind in the Czech Republic. Our graduates and students are in demand from leading technology companies and start-ups around the world. We owe this to the fifteen years of daily work of all the faculty staff. In order to continue to educate excellent IT professionals in the rapidly changing world of technology, we are continuously investing in modernising our teaching and research facilities. We are expanding degree programs and specializations to reflect the latest trends and needs of the job market. We strengthen our collaboration with industry and strive to stay at the cutting edge of technology research. In the future, we plan to further develop interdisciplinary projects and continuously improve the educational process and support innovation in the field of IT," says Doc. RNDr. Ing. Marcel Jiřina, Ph.D., Dean of CTU FIT.

In cooperation with other faculties of CTU, the faculty is preparing a new Master's degree programme in Quantum Informatics from the academic year 2025/2026 aimed at the latest trends in informatics. New laboratories for quantum communication and cryptography and quantum computing will also be opened. Furthermore, CTU FIT is preparing a new study specialisation focusing on computer graphics, vision and games within the upcoming Master's degree programme in Applied Informatics, which will build on the highly successful specialisation in the Bachelor's degree programme. Another new Master's degree programme in Computer Science Teaching, which will prepare graduates for professional teaching of computer science in secondary schools, is being prepared by FIT in cooperation with the Masaryk Institute of Advanced Studies of Czech Technical University in Prague.

Over the past 15 years, FIT CTU has achieved a number of significant successes for its research and educational activities and has the ambition to continue its growth and continue to provide the highest quality education and research results. Furthermore, to be actively involved in leading and collaborating with other institutions and companies on major international research projects and to support students in their achievements in domestic and global competitions, working on projects with outputs applicable in practice and promoting science. The Faculty plans to continue expanding its degree programmes in the future in line with key IT areas such as the growing importance of the use of cyber security and artificial intelligence, the massive growth of cloud services and big data processing.

"I am pleased that CTU's decision to establish an independent Faculty of Information Technology has shown that it understands informatics as a full-fledged scientific discipline. The future has shown how right that decision was. Informatics today is characterized by how widely its methods and results are applied in other disciplines and how indispensable it is nowadays," says Prof. Ing. Pavel Tvrdík, CSc., Dean Emeritus of CTU FIT, currently serving as Head of the Department of Computer Systems at the faculty.
