In the summer semester, the course dealt with the development of a 200 hectare plot of land in Letňany, Prague. The lectures and tutorials covered various aspects of development to find appropriate solutions - from strategy and spatial planning to participation methods, PR and branding, infrastructure, budgeting and tax optimization to sustainability and risk management.
Representatives of the Ministry of Regional Development and the State Fund for Investment Promotion, experts in urban development planning, development and real estate market, land owners and PhD students were among the participants. Working in multidisciplinary teams brought different perspectives on the area under consideration.
"With its focus and concept, the course contributed to a better mutual understanding of the motivations and goals of the public and private sectors and promoted the ability to connect these worlds for the benefit of the quality of the environment, its social as well as financial value," says Michal Kohout from the Institute of Building Sciences at CU Faculty of Architecture.
The training was led by experts from the field of real estate development and real estate market, such as Petr Urbánek, director of the Prague Development Company, Jiří Čtyroký from IPR Prague, Ondřej Vala from OM Consulting and Tereza Gebauer from Deloitte. The course was held under the auspices of Petr Hlaváček, Deputy Mayor of Prague, with the cooperation of the Prague Development Company and the Association of Developers as an expert partner.
The aim of the Real Estate Development - Location course is to teach students how to optimize the development of larger areas taking into account the interests of stakeholders, different planned functions, financial interests and effective cooperation between the private and public sectors. They will become familiar with real estate and site development issues, understanding the context of the site and project from a territorial, socio-cultural, economic and environmental perspective. Thanks to their interdisciplinary focus, graduates will find employment in a wide range of positions.
Two courses are opening in the academic year 2024/2025. Property Development - Building will focus on the planning and implementation of the development and maintenance of a single medium-sized property such as a residential building. The course will be taught in five two-day blocks (Friday-Saturday) from October 2024 to January 2025. The second year of the Property Development - Location course will run in the same mode from February to May 2025.
