Three CTU students, the winners of the second edition of the EuroTeQaThon international competition held at Technical University of Munich in November 2022, spent two very busy days in Brussels. On 19 and 20 January 2023 they presented their project on waste heat recovery and met with representatives of the European Commission, including visit to the European Parliament.

Prokop Pučejdl, Edoardo Tasini (both Faculty of Mechanical Engineering) and Danila Lisitskii (Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering) entered the second edition of the inter-university competition EuroTeQ Collider without having met each other before. However, during a special brainstorming session based on a design challenge submitted by a company, they quickly formed a team and came up with an innovative approach to convert waste heat into electricity.

Specifically, they developed an idea based on a challenge from the largest Czech gas distributor, GasNet Group, which deals with the usage of waste heat from natural gas pressure reduction stations. The principle of converting waste heat into electricity can be used practically anywhere in industries where waste heat is generated. The expert jury selected their project as a competition entry for the EuroTeQaThon.

The highlight of the program was a visit to the European Parliament where students experienced the authentic atmosphere of the world's largest international parliament. The students, winners of the EuroTheQaThon, learned a lot about the operations and strategy of the European Union and not just in the field of environmental policies. There was also time for the less formal parts of the program, such as meeting colleagues from Technical University of Eindhoven and Technical University Tallinn and sightseeing in Brussels.

The third Collider, under the leadership of Prof. Henri Ahten, will soon be available within the KOS registration system for students to enroll in it. The third EuroTeQaThon will be hosted by the CTU in Prague.
