The lecture in English will be on the topic "Novel PET tracers for potential clinical applications in medicine" and will take place on Wednesday 19 June 2024 at 14.30 in lecture room B-103 (Břehová 7, Prague 1, 1st floor). Come and hear his experiences from the pioneering period of nuclear medicine and a look at the future! The event is organized by the Department of Nuclear Chemistry of FJFI CTU in cooperation with the Czech Society of Nuclear Medicine.
Prof. Abass Alavi is a physician and scientist of Iranian origin, based at the American University of Pennsylvania. He has been a lifelong professional in nuclear medicine and is one of the pioneers in the clinical use of positron emission tomography (PET), which has had a major impact on healthcare, particularly in oncology. He was part of the group that was the first in the world to use the radioactive tracer (radiopharmaceutical) 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose to image the intensity distribution of metabolism in the body. This examination has become an indispensable part of modern diagnosis of cancer and some inflammatory diseases.
