Regulation or re-regulation? This is the theme of this year's tenth anniversary edition of the LAW FIT conference, which brings together the world of law and information technology. The conference will take place at Faculty of Information Technology of Czech Technical University in Prague (FIT CTU) on 27-28 May 2024. It is intended for the general public and admission is free upon registration.

Thirty years ago, the digital space was almost unregulated. Today, on the other hand, few people are aware of the regulations that apply to it. In recent years, the regulation of personal data or cybersecurity has gained public attention. This decade, however, has been marked by more than thirty other regulations affecting digital services, e-commerce, telecommunications or electronic devices. Non-personal data, systems using artificial intelligence or online marketplaces are also newly regulated.

How does one cope with such overregulation? Do we need a national coordinator to make the overall agenda clearer and more understandable? How does the regulation of artificial intelligence, for example, deal with regulation? This is what this year's LAW FIT conference, organised for the tenth time by the FIT CTU in cooperation with the Centre for Law, Technology and Digitisation of the Charles University Faculty of Law (PF UK), will try to answer.

"This year, conference participants can look forward to a fantastic programme. Beyond the issues of regulating different digital environments, the second day will spark an extensive human rights debate on the need to enshrine a constitutional right to be off digital. All of this with the participation of top experts," says JUDr. Zdeněk Kučera, PhD, Head of the Centre for Law, Technology and Digitalization of the PF UK and lecturer at FIT CTU.

Unlike previous years, the conference will be divided into two days. On Monday, 27 May, it will take place at FIT CTU in the traditional conference format. On Tuesday 28 May, it will be followed by a big discussion on the right to be offline at the PF UK.

The conference is traditionally attended not only by lawyers and IT specialists, but also by government employees and academics. Registration for the conference is free at www.law.fit.cvut.cz. You can follow news about the conference on social media under the hashtag #lawfit.

The conference is held under the auspices of Deputy Prime Minister for Digitisation Ivan Bartos. The conference partner is the law firm HAVEL & PARTNERS.
