The condition for participation in the competition was to make a short video where scientists presented a scientific topic to the audience in a popularizing form within a maximum of 150 seconds. The competition attracted 34 scientists, from which the best six will compete in the final round, who were able to convey their enthusiasm for science to the public and present what goes on behind the doors of scientific departments and institutes in an interesting way. Doc. Surynek scored with his video about robotic agents, which are central to his research in the Robotic Agent Laboratory.
"For me as a researcher, my work is a challenge to help the faculty in some way, to contribute to its development. If we look at it like a sports team, trying to move the faculty up the table among the others is a lot of fun," says Doc. Surynek, and adds: "I think we have the potential to become competitive with top institutions, the talent here is huge, we just need to consolidate it and push ourselves scientifically. This is already happening, especially in artificial intelligence, where we have a great chance to be at the top."
Enthusiasm for science is not the only aim of the finals show of the Český Vševěd 2022 - but also to convey a piece of knowledge itself. It aims to break down the myths of scientists as people locked up in laboratories and to show the general public that scientists are "ordinary people" who do work that benefits society, can present it in an engaging way, but can also have fun. And that is what they can now present thanks to Czech Science. Registration for the finals show is possible at the Český Vševěd 2022.
