Alison Brooks, winner of several awards from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), Maruša Zoreč, winner of the Slovenian Plečnik Prize, and Eva Jiřičná, winner of the Order of the British Empire. The trio of architects will be joined by architect, urban planner and scientist Matthew Carmona, Professor at the Bartlett School of Planning.
"Men take more risks than women. This is a fact that has been proven in various studies over the years and explained by economic and evolutionary reasons. It has also been shown that these differences are amplified under stress: men become even bolder, while women become even more cautious. However, this rule does not have to apply, as this year's speakers will show us their art of creating the material world and reflecting this material world," adds the Vice Dean for International Relations of the Faculty of Architecture of the CTU, Doc. Irena Fialová.
The lectures will be held in the Gočár Lecture Hall, Faculty of Architecture, CTU in Prague, Thákurova 9, Prague 6 - Dejvice on Mondays at 18.00, on 8 November (Alison Brooks - Alison Brooks Architects, GB), 15 November (Maruša Zoreč - ARREA arhitektura, SL), 22 November (Maruša Zoreč - ARREA arhitektura, SL), 22 November (Alison Brooks - Alison Brooks Architects, GB). The lectures in English are intended for the general public, admission is free and wheelchair accessible. The programme will also be broadcast on the YouTube channel. A welcome drink will be available from 17.30, together with an informal meeting with the speakers.
The November Talks series has been supported by the Sto Foundation at European schools of architecture since 2006. This year it is also being held in London, Paris, Venice, Stuttgart and Graz.

Alison Brooks - Alison Brooks Architects
Alison Brooks is an award-winning and internationally renowned architect in the UK. She established her own practice, Alison Brooks Architects, in 1996. Her work includes urban design, housing or public buildings for education and culture. Alison Brooks is the only UK architect to have received all three of the profession's most prestigious architectural awards: the RIBA Stirling Prize, the Manser Medal and the Stephen Lawrence Prize.
Maruša Zoreč – ARREA arhitektura
Maruša Zoreč is a Slovenian architect who, together with her colleagues at ARREA arhitektura, has won numerous national awards such as the Prešeren Prize, the Plečnik Prize, the Piranesi Prize and the Stele Prize for the preservation of Slovenian cultural heritage. In their projects for the restoration of the Plečnik House or the extension of the Ormož Castle, a sensitive yet bold approach to the restoration of historical buildings is appreciated. Typical is the reduction of historical architecture to key principles that take on new meaning with new interventions.
Eva Jiřičná – AI – Design
Eva Jiřičná is a world-renowned architect and designer of Czech origin. Her two architectural studios - Eva Jiricna Architects Ltd. (1982-2017) in London and AI Design, which she founded in 1999 in Prague, are particularly famous for their luxury interior designs. In the Czech Republic, among her most famous projects are the orangery at Prague Castle, the congress centre in Zlín and the Josef Hotel in Prague. Eva Jiřičná is a recipient of the Order of the British Empire, was elected a member of the Royal Academy of Arts and inducted into the American Hall of Fame. She has honorary doctorates from several universities around the world, and in 2009 she was awarded the State Prize of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
Matthew Carmona – Bartlett School of Planning
Matthew Carmona is a prominent urban planner and architect. He is a professor at the Bartlett School of Planning, University College London, where he teaches urban planning and urban design. His research focuses on the management of urban design and public space. He chairs the Place Alliance movement for the quality of the built environment, and is the author of 12 books which underpin the teaching of urban design in many schools. In Prague, as a member of the jury, he is involved in the organization of the Florenc 21 competition for the revitalization of the Masaryk Station area.
