HORIZON EUROPE - Global Challenges and Competitiveness - Cluster 6 - FOOD, BIOECONOMICS, NATURAL RESOURCES, AGRICULTURE AND ENVIRONMENT

Human activities, combined with climate change, are putting significant pressure on the natural resources and systems on which the nutrition of the planet's growing population is directly dependent. The concept of a circular economy, bioeconomy and an economy based on harnessing the potential of the seas and oceans (blue economy) should provide an opportunity to balance environmental, social and economic objectives and move towards sustainability.

Research and innovation in this cluster should contribute to accelerating the achievement of the objectives of key European and global strategies and policies. These include, in particular, the Sustainable Development Goals defined by the United Nations, which include ensuring adequate nutrition, clean water, health and quality of life for the world's population, and an emphasis on sustainable production and consumption. Activities in Cluster 6 are also intended to contribute to achieving climate neutrality by 2050, a key objective of the Green Deal for Europe. Further development of the bioeconomy and circular economy is intended to fully exploit the potential of biological resources for renewable production, reduce the EU's dependence on non-renewable resources, and help reduce emissions and waste production from industrial processes. The protection and restoration of ecosystems is one of the main objectives of the European Biodiversity Strategy. Preventing biodiversity loss also means preventing future threats to human health.

The Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) has published its work programme for 2023, which includes information on calls for projects. 215.5 million will be dedicated to 18 topics. The deadline is scheduled for 20 September 2023.

The CBE JU Information Day will take place on 20 April 2023.

On 22.12.2022, 8 calls for projects in Cluster 6 (Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment) were opened with deadlines on 28 March 2023 or 12 April 2023. You can find the calls here or you can see a spreadsheet of all the themes for 2023 here (under the title Cluster 6 Theme Overview for 2023-2024).
