The Embassy of France in Prague, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic, has announced the next edition of the Barrande Fellowships programme, which is designed to support the mobility of PhD students between the Czech Republic and France. Interested applicants can apply until 12 February 2023.
The Embassy of France in Prague and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic coordinate the Barrande Fellowships programme, a mobility exchange programme for Ph. D. students between the Czech Republic and France. The aim of the programme is to provide PhD students in the Czech Republic with the opportunity to study in France. With representation from all disciplines, it allows PhD students to gain international experience in the humanities, natural and biological sciences, exact and technical sciences, economics and law, medicine and others.
The aim of the programme is to strengthen international exchange in the field of education and to promote scientific cooperation between French and Czech research teams. To this end, the programme funds:
- Cotutelle, a doctoral programme that is implemented jointly at two partner universities, one in France and the other in the Czech Republic. Each year, the scholarship holder completes a five-month stay in France for a maximum of three years.
- A short-term stay in a research laboratory in France for 1 to 3 consecutive months.
Since the signing of this bilateral partnership in 2020, more than 75 PhD students have taken advantage of this opportunity.
"This program has allowed me to grow personally and scientifically and has enriched my knowledge and experience beyond my expectations," says Anastasia Cassisa, Ph. "Thanks to the two months I spent at GANIL, I expanded my scientific skills and enriched my personal background. I improved not only my language skills but also my communication skills."
Henok Tegegne, Ph. D. student in Epidemiology and Public Health adds that, "The working environment in France is very good and one of my favorite places to spend time was my workplace." He also shared his experience at the University of Lyon between 2018 and 2020: "The tutors were very supportive and I was very independent. I was able to use all my potential, especially in research, so it was very different from other countries."
You can listen to the experiences of other fellows on YouTube.
Applications are open until 12 February 2023.
