According to the jury which as six years ago in Milan welcomes visitors right at one of the main entrances, the evaluation of the exhibition is as follows.
"The use of Czech innovations is responsible for the fact that this pavilion impresses with the way it can extract steam from the barren desert and give the impression of a fertile land. And bringing the wasteland to life is exactly what the creators of Formosa AA set out to do. With its efforts to evoke diverse themes such as water, design, technology and universities, the Czech exhibition will showcase the newly conceived displays of local companies."
Five proposals made it to the final stage of the tender for the Czech Spring pavilion for Expo 2020 in Dubai - five others had to be eliminated during the preliminary design submission and a sixth during the submission of competition models. The expert committee consisted of architects Eva Jiřičná, Miroslav Řepa, Zdeněk Lukeš, Michael Klang, David Vávra and representatives of the academic, artistic and business community Tomáš Matuška, Jan Kukla and Radek Špicar.
The technological core of the national exposition is the S.A.W.E.R. system producing water from air using solar energy and cultivating the desert using subsurface cultures, which is being developed by scientists of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and the Czech Technical University.
The piping which forms a cloud on the exterior, passes into the interior where it intertwines with other technological piping, most of which is left as visual. The emphasis is on the components of the cultivation system which are located in direct relation to the centre of gravity of the pavilion. The acknowledgement of technology is elevated to its display in the pavilion.
The Czech Pavilion is located in the Sustainability Zone on a 2,200 square meter site.
