ČVUT Engineers Prague is an external club of the Student Union that brings together active ice hockey players from CTU and gives them the opportunity to continue playing the sport while attending university. The team was founded in 2015, at that time under the name Engineers Prague, as it brought together students from CTU, VŠE, and ČZU. However, before the 2023/24 season, it changed its name to ČVUT Engineers Prague and has since represented our university exclusively. This change was accompanied by a new logo. The new design features the head of the official lion from the CTU coat of arms, depicted on a shield.
Battle for Prague – Silver in Front of a Packed Arena
One of the highlights of the season is traditionally the two-round university hockey tournament: the Battle for Prague, in which Prague’s four largest universities (CTU, Charles University, CULS, and VŠE) face off. After excellent performances this year, the Engineers made it to the finals, but were unable to defeat their longtime rival, the UK Kings Prague, losing 3–6. Our Engineers thus finished in second place in front of a sold-out Fortuna Sports Hall in Holešovice, where more than 9,000 fans gathered.
ČVUT Engineers Prague – Runners-up of the 2025/26 University Ice Hockey League
After the regular season of the university ice hockey league, the Engineers entered the playoffs in second place. In the semifinals, they soundly defeated the VŠE team 5–1 and faced off against the Charles University team for the title in front of a packed stadium at Eden, just as they did in the final of the Battle of Prague. However, they were once again unable to match the UK Kings Prague, losing 4–1, and despite their great disappointment, they took home well-deserved silver medals.
International Successes
This year, several players from the ČVUT Engineers Prague traveled to the U.S. and Canada to represent university hockey at international tournaments. The university team brought home a bronze medal from the prestigious Vikings Cup in Canada, and Engineers captain David Routa was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. David is also traditionally among the best players in the university hockey league. He won the league's scoring title by a wide margin and was named not only the league's top scorer but also the best forward of the past season.
The Club President’s Assessment
“I definitely view the season positively, even though it lacked that finishing touch. This year saw several changes that needed time to settle in. However, we can boast the highest home attendance, and our viewership has grown—not only on social media, but also on streams and TV broadcasts. And the Battle of Prague once again broke its own European record for attendance at a university sporting event. Overall, the University Hockey project is growing rapidly, and we are proud to be a part of it," said Aleš Příhoda.
