The leadership of the Czech Technical University in Prague supports the call by the Council of the Learned Society of the Czech Republic, which is urging the Czech government and Parliament to halt the drafting of a bill on the registration of entities with foreign ties.

“Academic freedom is one of the fundamental pillars of democracy and a source of scientific progress, critical understanding of the world, and technological development, which is key to the competitiveness of the Czech economy. Without free international scientific cooperation, open publication of scientific results, and the acquisition of grant funding from abroad, the development of Czech universities and research institutions would be jeopardized,” says CTU Rector Prof. Michal Pěchouček.

The university administration views the proposed law on the registration of entities with foreign ties as an attack on academic freedom, successful scientific research, and an open civil society. As such, it is incompatible with the Czech democratic tradition.
