On 21 June, doc. Ing. Zuzana Masáková, Ph.D., from the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering and doc. RNDr. Igor Medved, Ph.D., from the Faculty of Civil Engineeringt took their professorial appointment decrees from the hands of the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Kateřina Valachová in the Great Hall of the Karolinum at Charles University in Prague. New professors were appointed effective from 17 May.

The CTU Scientific board proposed doc. Masáková to be appointed as professor for the Applied Mathematics field and doc. Medveď to be appointed for the Theory of building structures and materials field.

Doc. Zuzana Masáková does research in advanced fields of mathematics, such as non-standard numeration systems, aperiodic paving and quasicrystals models. These high demanding theoretical disciplines have many applications, both in science and in the descriptions of new materials. Doc. Masáková, who supervises over the Applied Informatics study field, had also worked at the Université de Montréal.

Doc. Igor Medveď works at the Department of Materials, Engineering and Chemistry of the Faculty of Civil Engineering since 2010, where he lectures on Materials Engineering in English. Under his previous appointment at the Physics Department of the Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, he lectured on Thermodynamics and Statistical physics, Theoretical mechanics, Thermo-physical properties of materials and Transport phenomena since 2004. He introduced five new regular study courses. He had also lectured at foreign universities, such as University of Groningen in the Netherlands or Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, USA.
