At the largest fun science festival under the open sky, children and adults can try out what it's like to be a researcher, racer, firefighter, pilot, doctor, soldier or maybe an inventor, touch everything, try everything.
"This year we have prepared new attractions for all curious science enthusiasts, regardless of age. No matter what field you are a "fan", you will find it at VědaFest, you will learn, but most importantly you will have a great time!" Tamara Mašatová from the organizing team invites you to visit.
Science across disciplines
Visit the PPG stand and discover the world of colors – from their production to their use on cars and toys to how our eyes perceive the entire color scale. Test your knowledge in a quiz, compete for great prizes or take home a temporary tattoo.
The Prague Museum will reveal Prague through time. It will demonstrate the dating of finds using comparative typology and add experimental archaeology: crushing grain on original prehistoric crushers. Microbiologists from the Microbiological Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic will show that mushrooms are not just mushrooms, that they can be harmful, but also useful.
What happens when a mutation in DNA disrupts its regulation? Cells can start to divide uncontrollably: the company M.G.P. will show how cancer develops. That a car can have eyes on the back of its head and sonar: this is how a combination of cameras, radars and lasers works. The company will show that Valeo. The Merkur building kit has been successfully developing creativity and technical thinking for over 100 years. Come and play with Otto Wichterle's famous "lens machine".
The Institute of Technology in Prague will demonstrate that plastics are not only made of oil, that one day the medicines we rely on and what will feed modern civilization in the future may not work.
"It is difficult to get people excited about natural and technical sciences with the help of textbooks. That is why thirteen years ago we were at the birth of VědaFest, where children were given the opportunity to take various technologies directly into their hands. And many of them are today solving fundamental problems of humanity - what will we build from, what will we eat, what can we treat ourselves with - together with us," says the rector of the Institute of Technology in Prague, Milan Pospíšil.
The Czech Technical University will surprise with mathematical experiments: how to measure the number π by throwing matches? And how to comb a furry ball so that it does not create a vortex or a path? You can also look forward to unique exhibits: a hydraulic model of a slalom course, a space rover, an electric formula, a railway simulator and a workshop that will show that architecture is both science and art. In the off-line zone, you will try out how to do without a mobile phone and the internet, how to search for information in a book or find your way with a paper map.
“The science of the future starts today. A completely new chapter of scientific knowledge is being written right now. At CTU, we are very aware that mathematics will play an increasingly important social role in the coming era. It helps to better understand the functioning of advanced artificial intelligence. That is why it is so essential to bring the hidden charm of mathematical sciences closer to the general public,” says CTU Rector Prof. Michal Pěchouček.
Entertaining shows on the festival stage
The program in the tents is complemented by the program on the festival stage throughout the day. In addition to chemical shows, visitors will also see the dog detective championship, the skills of dog assistants and the announcement of the winners of the VědaFest competition. Competitions and quizzes with prizes await visitors at many other stands.
Science from different perspectives
The program also includes lectures for schools. Students can look forward to electromobility in practice, how cars see and hear with the "sixth sense", how microbiologists use seemingly incompatible things for recycling, or what the path from DNA to the patient is (EN). Registration at www.vedafest.cz/program.
Don't be afraid to ask!
VědaFest - this is a unique day full of experiments, inventions and interactive experiences! Student, child, parent or inquisitive adult, at the festival everyone can try amazing experiments, meet scientists and discover in a fun way how science is changing the world around us.
At all exhibitions, visitors will not only have fun, but most importantly understand! Ask why. That's why ScienceFest is here!
