Professor Ondřej Přibyl, Head of the Department of Applied Mathematics, was elected as a candidate for the position of Dean of the Faculty of Transport at the meeting of the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Transport on 16 November. After his appointment as Rector, he will succeed Associate Professor Pavel Hrubeš as Dean of the Faculty from February 2022.

Ondřej Přibyl received the necessary majority of votes in the first round of the secret ballot. Twelve senators of the nineteen-member Academic Senate of the Faculty of Transport voted for him, two abstained and five senators voted for the current dean, Associate Professor Pavel Hrubeš. The faculty elected the dean for the next four-year term from 2022 to 2026.

Prof. Ing. Ondřej Přibyl, Ph.D., graduated in Technical Cybernetics from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague, and received his Ph.D. in Transportation Planning from Penn State University. In 2010, he received an associate professorship in Engineering Informatics at the Faculty of Transportation of CTU and was appointed Professor in the same field in 2017. From 2014 to 2020 he served as Vice Dean for International Relations of the Faculty of Transportation and since 2019 he has been the head of the Department of Applied Mathematics. His main areas of expertise are data processing and mathematical modelling, artificial intelligence and the study of traffic behaviour. He is a member of many international professional organizations and regularly lectures at professional conferences in the Czech Republic and abroad.

As a future dean, he wants to use his more than 14 years of experience from Czech and foreign commercial companies as well as from his work in leading positions at the Faculty of Transportation of the CTU. He has set as one of his priorities working with talents, improving scientific results, creating inter-institutional competence centres and attracting long-term scientific research projects and Czech and international partners. In the pedagogical field, he intends to focus on the development of modern teaching methods and greater involvement of foreign students and professors in teaching.

Prof. Pribyl also wants to improve the academic environment of the faculty and support communication and discussion at all levels. He would like to achieve the position of the faculty as a strategic partner in the field of transport and thus to contribute to solving social challenges in the Czech and international environment.
