In the second half of July, one of the three training camps of the Czech Republic's Secondary Czech Cyber Security Championship, which are preparing Czech students for the European finals, took place at the Cyber Security Training Center of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. It is organized by the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA) and will take place in London from 15 to 17 October.

During the training camp at CTU, students were trained by practitioners from the academic, corporate and state spheres. They got acquainted with professional workplaces that are unavailable to the public, such as the Security Information Service or the Military Intelligence. They have exercised practical malware analysis, overcoming embedded systems, investigating the weaknesses of information systems and how difficult it is to organize teamwork well.

"The attitude, enthusiasm and knowledge of students exceeded my expectations. It is clear that the national team is formed by the best thanks to the cybercompetition. Every year evermore students are take part in the competition and it pleases me that they are interested in this topic. Cyber threats are constantly evolving, so we must also learn how to defend against them", said Ing. Jaroslav Burčík, Ph.D., Head of the Training Center and Vice-Chairman of the Cybersoutěž.cz Competition Committee which identifies talents for the Czech national team. The Cyber Security Training Center is part of the internationally recognized ITU Centers of Excellence Network.

The Czech round of the competition is organized by the AFCEA cyber security working group in cooperation with a number of state, academic and professional partners, with the National Bank of Cybernetics and Information Security as the main partner. The 2017/18 academic year witnessed the second year which was attended by more than 3,000 people from 86 different secondary schools. The best will form the basis of the national team of the Czech Republic at the European finals of the European Cyber Security Challenge.

The next edition of the national competition starts on 17 September 2018. For more information visit www.kybersoutez.cz, where you can also watch performance of this year's national team in London.
