How can we thrive in an era of rapid technological change—including AI—geopolitical uncertainty, and growing demands for energy and technological resilience? Answers will be provided at the United by Innovation – Industry 4.0 Open House conference, which will take place on May 14, 2026, at the CPIT TL3 facility at VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava.

The event is organized annually by the National Center for Industry 4.0, and thanks to a partnership with VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava and the CPIT TL3 testbed infrastructure, it is being held in the Moravian-Silesian Region for the first time. The goal is to connect companies, research organizations, and public administration and to demonstrate, through practical demonstrations and case studies, how innovations can be translated into real-world practice and what competitive advantages this brings to companies.

“We want to demonstrate in practical terms how Czech companies can succeed in a rapidly changing environment. It’s not just about the technologies themselves, but about the ability to use them correctly and integrate them with business, as well as to take advantage of the opportunities offered by testbeds and the research sector,” says Robert Keil, Director of the National Center for Industry 4.0.

The morning session will open with a strategic panel titled “United by Innovation: How to Succeed in an Uncertain World,” which will focus on the key challenges facing today’s industry—from geopolitical impacts and the rise of artificial intelligence and advanced digital technologies to issues of energy, security, and the long-term competitiveness of regions. The discussion will also address the role of Ostrava as a region where new approaches and technologies are tested in practice.

The following individuals accepted invitations to join the panel: Radek Martinek (Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava), Eduard Palíšek (CEO, Siemens Czech Republic), Adéla Hradilová (Chairwoman of the Board of Directors, MSIC), Šárka Šimoňáková (First Deputy Governor of the Moravian-Silesian Region), and David Navrátil (Chief Economist, Česká spořitelna), who will offer expert perspectives from industry, public administration, and the economy.

The strategic discussion will be followed by a session dedicated to the connection between research and industry, which will demonstrate how innovations are actually implemented in corporate practice. It will present the collaboration of testbeds in Prague, Brno, and Ostrava, as well as specific projects carried out with industrial partners—ranging from the use of artificial intelligence to digital twins in manufacturing. The emphasis will be primarily on real benefits for companies and on how these infrastructures can help accelerate the implementation of innovations.

“Ostrava today represents a strong environment for the development of innovation and collaboration between universities and companies. Thanks to infrastructure such as the CPIT TL3 testbed, we are able to offer companies real-world conditions for testing and implementing new technologies,” adds Petr Šimoník, Vice Dean for Industry Collaboration and Commercialization at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, VŠB-TUO.

Igor Ivan, Rector of VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava, will also speak at the conference, introducing the afternoon session focused on practical applications and specific experiences of companies. Partners of the National Industry 4.0 Center—Siemens, Škoda Auto, Conteg, SICK, QPAG, Prima Bilavčík, PHARIS, Deprag CZ, DEL, MURR, and Adeon—will present their case studies, covering a wide range of industrial sectors.

The day will also feature guided tours of the state-of-the-art CPIT TL3 testbed laboratories—Smart Factory, Mobility Lab, 3D Printing Lab, and Health Lab—where visitors can see the technologies in action. A key feature is the innovation fair, featuring presentations by technology partners, expert consultations, and the opportunity to undergo a DigiAudit, which will help companies identify opportunities for digitalization and further development.

The event is primarily intended for business owners, managers, innovation experts, and public administration representatives seeking concrete ways to strengthen the competitiveness of their organizations.

Participation is free upon registration; capacity is limited.
