Around 50 Czech and Slovak scientists participating in the ATLAS experiment at the CERN International Science Center will meet at the ATLAS CZ + SK 2019 two-day working meeting at Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering in Prague on 24 and 25 June. In addition to presenting the results achieved and the mutual exchange of experience, it will include a lecture addressed to the wider public, within which ATLAS scientists will present and emphasize the role and results of Czech and Slovak researchers. The lecture for the public will take place on Monday from 8.30 am.

The ATLAS project is extremely extensive and there are several hundred different experiments in which thousands of scientists from around the world participate. Among them are several dozen Czechs and Slovaks. In addition to experienced scientists, students will also participate in the meeting.

The ATLAS project is one of the four major projects being carried out at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research). One of the best-known results scientists have achieved was the discovery of the Higgs boson from the Z0 boson decay. The researchers searched him for 45 years, succeeded in 2011, and two years later, this discovery was awarded the Nobel Prize.

The ATLAS CZ + SK 2019 two-day workshop  was supported by the CAAS Center for Advanced Applied Natural Sciences (CZ.02.1.01 / 0.0 / 0.0 / 16-019 / 0000778), which is co-financed by the European Union. ATLAS CZ + SK 2019 is part of the PARTPHYS program, which focuses on particle and nuclear physics and has seven subprograms.
