The faculty counts its separate existence since 22 September 1976, when CTU´s Civil Engineering Faculty divided to Civil Engineering one and that of Architecture. The architectural field has its long tradition at CTU. Specialised architectural education was established already on 1864, when Civil Engineering divided into architecture-civil engineering and infrastructure buildings. Josef Zítek, creator of the National Theatre building, was appointed first dean for the architecture-civil engineering field. Notable Czech architects have always contributed to architectural education. Figures as Jiří Fišer, Antonín Balšánek, Josef Fanta or Jan Koula were involved here during 19th century. Throughout 40 years of independent existence, system of education have undergone dramatic changes as studio designs came into focus and school opened its doors to active professionals

Opening of the New Building, in which the faculty resides since 2011, was an important milestone in faculty´s history. Improvement of conditions for education brought new possibilities for its development. The studies that so far offered only one study field was extended with the Design study field in 2009 and in 2015, the Landscape architecture study field was accredited.
