Associate Professor Miroslav Sedláček from the Department of Economics and Management at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at CTU Prague is nominated as the finalist in the prestigious science competition European Prize Inventor of the year 2016 in the category Research for the invention of rolling turbines. Ceremonial presentation of awards, granted by the European Patent Office, will be held in Lisbon on 9 June.

Inventors and their teams, more than 400 of which were selected, will be awarded in five categories. Doc. Miroslav Sedláček, together with his colleagues Vladimír Novák and Václav Beran worked on the development of rolling turbines, having potential to considerably advance the way of extracting energy from water. The device may also generate energy from slow-flowing streams, rivers or sea tides, which represent a revolutionary alternative and supplement to conventional hydropower energy generation.

The multifaceted and important work of inventors from different countries and technical disciplines is put at the forefront by the European prize for inventors. Assoc. prof. Sedláček is just the third representative of the Czech Republic to be ever nominated for the awards.
