And he adds that the Czech Republic currently has a chance to repeat something similar if it can bring together three things - capital, talent and energy
Sleeping capital
"We have clouds of dormant capital here that need to be awakened," says Sýkora. Czech households hold about four trillion crowns in their accounts, of which over a trillion are purely in interest-free current accounts, where inflation eats away at their real value year after year. A more active approach to money is one of the things that, according to partner WOOD & Company, could move the Czech Republic forward.
So don't invest if you're thinking
CTU as an incubator
According to Sýkora, the second pillar of the Czech Republic's further flourishing is talent. "If we want to grow, we need more talent. And that talent can be accelerated through AI," he describes.
According to him, higher education is to play a key role. He specifically mentions the plans of the new CTU rector, Michal Pěchouček, including a new interdisciplinary program for young scientists. WOOD & Company supports this through its foundation.

The ambition is not small. CTU is currently ranked 198th in the school rankings (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026) within the field of Engineering & Technology. Pěchouček, who became rector in February this year, has set himself the goal of getting the school among the 100 best technical universities in the world within ten years. "I hope that more Czech universities will have similar ambitions," adds Sýkora.
Untapped potential
The third pillar is energy. Sýkora reminds us that roughly half of Czech electricity is produced from nuclear power. "I consider this an untapped competitive advantage, especially in combination with the planned construction of new units and small modular reactors," he says, adding that knowledge (not only) in the field of energy is something that the Czech Republic should use more. He also sees potential in the possible construction of infrastructure, including data centers.
Are you young? Take a risk!
Finally, Sýkora has clear advice, especially for young, beginning investors. "Take maximum risk at a young age," he urges them. According to him, it is possible to afford much more in youth than later in life. According to him, the willingness to take risks is also a prerequisite for the aforementioned Central European Renaissance to actually take place.

"We were a magnet for global talent during the Renaissance, during the time of Rudolf II," says Jan Sýkora.
