Professor Ladislav Lábus will be inducted into the Architectural Hall of Fame this year. His buildings have long been recognized. He has received numerous awards throughout his career, including the 2014 Ministry of Culture Award for Architecture.
His work has gained international acclaim. Some of his projects have also been nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Award. Lábus was also made an honorary member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
In the competition for the National Architecture Awards last year, the best family house was designed by Ladislav Lábus' architectural studio. The building's materials are based on traditional forms of building elements, but they were used in a contemporary way. The studio managed to find harmony with historical values and create a building that respects the history of the location, but at the same time provides contemporary comfort.
Candidates for the Honor are nominated annually by the professional community. The winners are then selected by a jury, which this year included architect Alena Mičeková as chairwoman, architect and chairman of the Czech Academy of Sciences Jan Kasl, landscape architect and head of the Institute of Landscape Architecture at the Czech Technical University Zuzana Štemberová, editor-in-chief of the ERA21 magazine Filip Landa, and theorist of architecture and design Adam Štěch.
Ladislav Lábus is one of the leading figures in contemporary Czech architecture and at the same time one of the most prominent representatives of the so-called Czech rigor. Since 1991, he has run his own office Lábus AA – Architectural Studio.
He has worked for a long time not only as an architect, but also as a teacher at the Faculty of Architecture at the Czech Technical University. According to the judges, the Czech Chamber of Architects’ honor is awarded to Professor Lábus for his exceptionally refined and timeless architectural work, for his lifelong defense of the values of quality architecture, and for his pedagogical and professional work.
His work stands out for its understanding of the place and the needs of clients, and for his ability to respect the historical environment. In his buildings, he has long demonstrated that architecture can be contemporary, yet refined and respectful of the surrounding world. A big plus is that his designs are long-term resistant to passing architectural and design trends and yet have a very contemporary appearance.
The ČKA tribute will be ceremonially presented to Professor Lábus at the nomination evening of the Czech Architecture Award on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at the Prague Center for Architecture and Urban Planning.
