Admission to the fair is free, but some of the accompanying program events must be booked in advance. These include lectures such as the Sky of Middle-earth, which is dedicated to the astronomy of Tolkien's world.
Visitors to the fair will be able to try out simulated control of a nuclear reactor, organized by experts from in Prague. At the laser-ultrasonic shooting range, which will be presented by the Institute of Thermomechanics of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, visitors will see what happens when light hits matter at a tremendous speed in time, slowed down by a hundred thousand times, after firing a pistol.
The largest area at the fair will be occupied by the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (FZU). In the photovoltaic tent, people will be able to try out the photoelectric effect, in which incident light knocks electrons off the surface of matter, which then create an electric current. In the solar zoo, they will then learn about various ways of using solar energy.
Technology in the lead role
The FZU exhibition will also include a levitation train, which, thanks to so-called superconductivity, hovers just above its track. Superconductivity is a phenomenon in which materials exhibit zero electrical resistance and expel a magnetic field from their interior.
The Faculty of Engineering of the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague will present the international student project Formula Student, which has been operating since 2011. Its members are currently building the eleventh single-seater with a built-in hybrid drive, the construction of which emphasized sustainability and the use of progressive materials.
For the twentieth time, students will be able to try making their own Stirling engine at the stand of the Association for the Support of Vocational Education. Interested parties can construct a simple engine directly on site under the supervision of experienced engineers.
The University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice and Tomas Bata University in Zlín will also present their research and devices at the fair.
