During the spring, teams from all over the country constructed and programmed autonomous robots for this year's competition task called the Tetris puzzle.
"The goal was to move as many colored pieces as possible into the marked zones within 90 seconds and assemble squares with four sides of the corresponding color from them," explained the main organizer Martin Hlinovský from the Department of Control Engineering at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech Technical University.
He added that the key was to come up with a strategy to get the maximum points. And then to design the robot so that it could reliably fulfill it. This is exactly what the aforementioned Team STV team, consisting of Aaron Agulár, Lukáš Hrdina and Martin Mandera, was best at.
A record 153 teams registered for the spring stage of the Robo Competition this year, of which 130 competed during the three April preliminary rounds in the Zenger Auditorium at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech Technical University. The best 16 teams then advanced to the grand final. This took place on Sunday, May 10th in Křižík Pavilion E at the Prague Holešovice Exhibition Grounds as part of the Maker Faire Prague festival under the expert supervision of FEL representatives.
“This year’s task was really successful. It was fascinating to watch how even very young teams think strategically and try to assemble entire squares instead of simply moving parts. This made the competition extremely dynamic and balanced,” summarized organizer Martin Hlinkovský.
